On the 13th – 15th March, we the sisters in temporary vows had our second formation program at the Divine Master Convent in Strathfield. It was a reflective and enriching weekend for both of us.
On the first day, Sr. Rose Nagade from the Province of India delivered a meaningful and comprehensive online session on Interculturality. She explained the concept from a theological perspective, rooted in the Trinitarian communion. She also based her reflection on the First Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians (9:22), emphasising that becoming one with others through humility and adaptability is an effective way to strengthen fraternal communion within the community.
Sr. Rose further outlined three key steps to developing intercultural understanding: disposition, competence, and intentionality. These steps help us gain a deeper awareness of cultural differences, appreciate the richness of other cultures, and recognize their values. She also highlighted that challenges arising from these differences can be embraced as opportunities for personal growth and for deepening our identity as Sister Disciples.
On the second day, Sr. Anita, our formator, journeyed with us in prayer and personal encounters. She also guided us in deepening our understanding of the importance of self-concept, focusing on self-esteem, self-image, self-acceptance, and personal development. She emphasized how these aspects greatly influence our lives and relationships. She also reminded us of the importance of self-education—learning to understand, accept, improve, and respect ourselves, as well as others in the community. The day concluded with an enjoyable evening recreation with the sisters of the community.
On Sunday, the final day of our formative session, Sr. Anita joined us for the 9:00 a.m. Mass at St. Dominic’s Parish, where we are part of the choir. This allowed her to experience our ministry within the parish setting. For us, it is a meaningful moment of sharing our gifts and expressing our faith through music and service.
Next, we continued our day with a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Mercy at Penrose Park. This sacred place offered a peaceful and prayerful environment, ideal for reflection and spiritual renewal. The site is beautifully arranged with various international chapels representing different ethnic communities who come to pray at their respective shrines. The site also includes the Stations of the Cross, the tomb of Jesus, statues of Our Lady and various saints, and spaces for family gatherings, prayer, and seminars. These elements highlighted the universality of the church and the beauty of cultural diversity within faith. The serene atmosphere allowed us to connect more deeply with God and with one another, bringing the entire experience of the weekend to a meaningful conclusion.
With grateful heart, we extend our sincere thanks to Sr. Anetta, our delegate superior and to Sr. Anita, our formator, for organizing and guiding this enriching program. Their dedication and care made these few days a truly transformative experience, fostering spiritual engagement, self-awareness and a deeper sense of fraternal communion within our community life. We feel truly blessed with this meaningful journey. This experience has not only enriched our understanding but has also renewed our commitment to live more authentically and lovingly our vocation.
